I.D. Day

As part of the chapters community outreach program to provide accurate gemological information to the public, the chapter has participated in Identification Day (I.D. day) at the University of Texas.  This event is held twice a year, in August and January, at the Texas Memorial Museum on the U.T. campus in Austin, TX.  The public is invited to attend (free admittance) and bring items that they would like to know more about or have identified.  Items brought include fossils, rocks, gems, jewelry, and other found objects.  Our chapter has manned a booth with graduate gemologists to visit with the public and provide information on the jewelry and gem objects they have brought in for identification.  This year, we have also provided a demonstration on how to cab stones and allowed young members of the public to participate.  This activity was very well received.  Our chapter has been invited by the curator of the Texas Memorial Museum to continue to participate in this event.
