Mission Statement
The Alumni Association, established in the fall of 1982, the GIA Alumni Association
was created in response to requests made by GIA students and graduates. Graduates
of all nationalities, backgrounds, and ages expressed a desire to keep in touch
ith colleagues and to stay abreast of new developments in gemology.
The Lone Star GIAAA's members serve as ambassadors of GIA and are to become visible
channels through which GIA is perceived by the public. The Alumni/Chapter Mission:
Provide a forum for industry-specific educational and social opportunities for its
alumni, worldwide, involved in gemology.
Keep alumni informed, interested, and active in the affairs of GIA and to promote
regional interest in GIA and its educational programs.
Help build a supportive network for current and future GIA Alumni through contributions
of time, service, materials, and funds.
Provide a forum through which supporters who volunteer their time, materials, and
financial commitment to GIA's mission can be recognized.
To enhance the reputation and importance of GIA diploma and certificate.
To offer a participation recognition system that will increase professionalism and
improve the professional standing of alumni members in the gems and jewelry industry.
Membership
The Alumni and Associate membership is open to anyone who has a desire to enhance
their professional status, maintain their knowledge of current technical issues,
and build their range of industry contacts. You do not have to be a GIA graduate
to join, but if you're serious about a successful career in this industry, you should
become a member of this exciting group.
There are two different membership levels - Alumni or Associate. To sign up for
an Alumni membership one must have received a diploma (Gemologist, G.G., G.J., or
G.J.G.) or have received a certificate in one of GIAs educational programs. Those
without a diploma or certificate can sign up for an Associate membership. Each level
offers a variety of benefits designed to enhance the members professional opportunities.
The membership for an Alumni member is free while the membership for an
Associate member is $50 annually. Students may renew and receive 18 months of membership
